Week 49 is here and that means another money save ways tip to go along with the 52 week money challenge. If you are following along, make sure you add in $49 to your 52 week money jar or $8 if you are doing the challenge in reverse. This week, my tip may be a little unconventional for you, but I think it’s worth talking about as it is one way I save money. Let’s talk about joining the “no-poo” movement, and no I am not talking about something you do in the toilet.

52 Money Save Ways: Week 49: Try the No-Poo Movement

This week we're sharing tips on how to save on those hair products by trying the no-poo method. Come read this week's 52 Week Challenge Money Save Ways Tip!

The no-poo movement is simply not using shampoo or conditioner in your hair. While the idea of this may sound a bit kooky, you actually can save a lot of money on these two products by not using them and in my experience, your hair thanks you.

Besides saving a lot of money, what are some other benefits? You hair won’t be coated in chemicals, for one. I think chemicals often create problems that require you to buy more products to tame them. If your hair is dull, it could be your shampoo’s fault.  If it is dry, it may even be your conditioner’s fault. Stripping your hair of it’s natural oils leaves it unhealthy. I didn’t believe this until I stopped using these products.

So what do you use to clear your hair with if not shampoo and conditioner? There are a couple of options. You can use baking soda soaks. This is done by soaking your hair in hot water with a little bit of baking soda in it. You can also use a more natural soap like Dr. Bronner’s. One word of caution with Dr. Bronner’s though; it can leave a film in your shower or even on your hair if you have hard water. If you don’t have hard water, Dr. Bronner’s can be diluted down and used perfectly well. One medium sized container of Dr. Bronner’s lasts me months.

To add shine and conditioning back in your hair, try apple cider vinegar to rinse with. It brings back luster to your locks and is very low cost. For deep conditioning treatment, I suggest raw shea butter or coconut oil. Both last a long time and are all natural.
