Homemade Vodka Sauce Recipe

Pasta makes a quick and comforting meal when you are in a pinch. But if you are tired of settling for boring old jar sauce, you will want to give this recipe a look. It is quite simple to make your own homemade vodka sauce, perfect for topping all of your pasta dishes with some pizzazz! Take a look below at how simple it is to whip up a batch that you can be enjoying in no time.

Homemade Vodka Sauce Recipe

Ingredients Needed:
2 cans of tomato sauce (a 22 oz to 28 oz. can seems to work best)
3 cans of crushed tomatoes
1 stick of butter
1 quart of heavy cream
¾ cup of minced garlic (this makes for a rather garlicky sauce, just adjust as needed to reflect your own tastes)
1 cup of vodka, any brand
1 tablespoon of red pepper flakes (less if you want less heat in your sauce)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon basil flakes or chopped fresh basil

Directions:
1. In a large sauce pot, place the butter and garlic in and stir gently until melted. Be sure to keep stirring so the garlic does not burn.
2. Add the tomato sauce and crushed tomatoes. Stir gently and allow the mixture to simmer on low to medium heat.
3. Stir in the vodka and red pepper flakes. After a few minutes of simmering, taste the sauce and decide if you wish to add a pinch of salt and/or pepper to taste.
4. Continue to simmer the mixture for about 30 minutes. Last, add your heavy cream and stir well. You want to keep the sauce moving to avoid burning.

Allow your sauce to cool and taste it before serving. If it is too spicy, some more cream can help cool it. You can adjust any of the ingredients above if you want a thinner/thicker/spicier/mellow sauce, but the recipe above is fairly medium as far as heat and thickness.
