5 Low Fat Smoothie Recipes

Summertime means fresh fruit and the desire to have a nice cold smoothie in my house! I just recently purchased a Ninja Blender (That I am in LOVE with).   We use these for breakfast, snacks and of course as a substitute for the much higher in fat and calorie milkshake that would be common for many people.  I love whipping up a quick treat that is so satisfying, yet doesn’t hurt my calorie count for the day.  I am sharing my 5 favorite low fat smoothies with you today.  Smoothies are so easy to make and so easy to adapt to what you have on hand but these are my personal favorite combos!

PEACH MANGO SMOOTHIE

1 Cup Ice

1 Non Fat Vanilla Yogurt

1 Small Peach peeled and cubed

1/4 Cup Mango cubed

1/2 Cup Peach Nectar

STRAWBERRY ORANGE BANANA SMOOTHIE

1 Cup Ice

1 Non Fat Strawberry Banana Yogurt

1/2 Cup Strawberries

1 Small Ripe Banana

1/2 Cup Orange Juice

WATERMELON BLUEBERRY SMOOTHIE

1 Cup Ice

1 Non Fat Vanilla Yogurt

1/2 Cup Watermelon cubed (and seeded)

1/2 Cup Fresh Blueberries

1/2 Cup Light Blueberry Juice

TROPICAL SMOOTHIE

1 Cup Ice

1/2 Cup Pineapple Chunks (Fresh is best but canned can be used in a pinch)

1 Small Ripe Banana

1/2 Cup Coconut Water

CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER BANANA SMOOTHIE

2 Ripe Banana Cubed and Frozen

1/4 Cup Strong Coffee Chilled

1/4 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa

1 Tablespoon Peanut Butter

2 Tablespoons Splenda

1/2 Cup Skim Milk

I recommend using a good quality blender to make these if using whole ice cubes.  If you have the ability to pre-crush ice from your freezer then any blender should work well.  It is very simple to toss ingredients into blender and pulse until smooth.

Each Smoothie serves 2 people and ranges between 150-200 calories per serving.

NOTE: Smoothies all have basic core ingredients.  Something frozen, some fruit or yogurt and a liquid to help blend.  They are easy to adjust to your preference of tastes or even simply by what you have on hand.  Also, a great way to “save” calories is to use a no calorie drink mix rather than juice in these.  Kool Aid makes a great Peach Mango, Watermelon and Lime flavor that can be made using Splenda for a no calorie substitute for the calorie dense juices.
