Things to Do This Summer in Lansing (June-August)

Are you looking for things to do in the Lansing area to get out of the summer heat? Your kids may be complaining about being bored, or you’re looking for things to get everyone out of the house. Whether you have kids or not, there are places and events for everyone, you will not want to miss.

Here are a few destinations and activities this summer in Lansing worth checking out.  You can also find over 100+ free things to do in the Lansing area for families. 

East Lansing Family Aquatic Center

If the sun is already draining your family of energy, take a splash at East Lansing Family Aquatic Center. There are body water slides, tube water slides, large swimming areas, a leisure pool for the little ones, and also water play structures that younger children will enjoy. They also have places you can have a picnic so you can spend more time here staying wet.   

Lansing Lugnuts

Take me out to the ballgame. The Lansing Lugnuts are a Toronto Blue Jays affiliated organization, that plays a great game of baseball the whole family will enjoy. Bring the kids on certain nights for special Lansing Lugnuts promotions  that MLB stadiums can’t compete with.

Anderson Park Mountain Bike Trail

Are you looking to hit the trails on your bike this summer? Anderson Park Mountain Bike Trail is great for beginners as well as the expert, providing different trails. There are obstacles that will test your skill, but you can ride around if it looks too challenging for you.

Aim High Sports Facility

Are your kids looking for a place to shoot some hoops or dig that volleyball? Maybe looking to get into a league? Then come check out Aim High Sports Facility that has 5 basketball courts, and 6 volleyball courts that you can check out. They offer clinics, leagues, and basketball camps throughout the year. If you’re looking for a great place to work out, they also have a weight room where you can bulk up and get fit.

Edru Skate

Hey kids! Are you interested in a night of skating and fun at the roller-rink? Edru Skate is a fun place to do the chicken dance, the limbo, skating backward, and having fun skating and playing games. Check out their laser tag and snack bar for some great treats.

Uncle John’s Cider Mill

Uncle John’s Cider mill has many activities as well as a ton of baked goods, candies, donuts, ciders, fruits, and vegetables in a fun environment of a building.  They also have a winery and tasting room, where you can try many of their sweet and fruit-flavored wines. There are many children’s activities and games your kids are sure to love. Come and participate in the 5k mile race that they do throughout the summer, that they raise for charity.

Educational Things to do in Lansing This Summer

Michigan History Museum

The Michigan History museum captures Michigan’s history, from the early 20th century, dating all the way back to prehistoric times. There are many galleries and exhibits, including a one-room schoolhouse, a rustic cabin, an old lighthouse, to exploring what inside a copper mine..  

Impression 5 Science Center

Worried your children’s brains will turn to mush this summer? This museum will take learning to a fun and exciting new level.  The Impression 5 Science Center is a hands-on family museum experience that will teach you about science using the 5 senses. Even smaller children will really enjoy the many play stations and creation stations, that will challenge their thinking on how things work.    

Potter Park Zoo

Potter Park Zoo is located in a wooded setting and is the oldest zoo in Michigan. Open year-round and exhibiting over 400 animals, this 100-acre zoo is a great way to spend a summer day with your children in downtown Lansing. There is also a Safari room, perfect for any party or occasion, and hands-on learning centers. On June 1, 2019, if you have a “Be a Tourist in your own Town” passport, you will be able to visit for free.  Don’t forget we have Zoo Days coming up in July. 

Abrams Planetarium

Come check out the sky-theatre at Abram’s Planetarium, that puts on exciting star shows. Your child will fall in love with astronomy, and space science, and learn about what it’s like being an astronaut.

W.J Beal Botanical Garden

This is not your typical botanical garden. This is the country’s oldest garden of this type, created back in 1873. The garden is no less impressive, with over 5,000 different species of flowers and plants that you probably don’t have in your backyard. W. J Beal Botanical Garden is a beautiful and relaxing way to spend in the cool of the morning.

Demented Mitten Tours

Do you enjoy the paranormal or haunted houses? Demented Mitten Tours is a company that offers tours to many rumored haunted locations in Lansing. You never know what you might experience in the dark.

BAD Brewing Company

If you enjoy a good brew and a great night-time atmosphere than BAD Brewing Company is the place.  With over 24 rotating beers and ciders, and several free comedy shows and parties throughout the year, there’s always something fun going on. Hop Resolution, one of their double IPA’s, is a fan-favorite you won’t want to miss. While there is a food truck regularly, you are welcome to bring your own food.

Arcadia Smokehouse

Are you looking for a great bite to eat and a good beer to go with? Located close to Michigan State University, Arcadia Smokehouse has many great-tasting craft brews on tap, that are local as well as regional. Many of their brews are crafted in Kalamazoo, at the Arcadia Brewing Company. They have many great mouth-watering BBQ meats and stone-fired pizzas you are sure to love.  

Spartan Brewpub

With over 20 of their own delicious brewed craft beers, Spartan Brewpub also specializes in smoked meats, from brisket to pulled pork, and many others. Come enjoy a nice summer night on their patio with live music, that brings a great atmosphere for a date, or a group of friends.
