Here’s this week’s money savings tip: Uses for Vinegar

I am not sure why I forgot this ideas for saving money gem of a tip way back at the beginning of this series. It is one that I use a lot around my house. In fact, I am convinced that vinegar is like a miracle potion. One of my favorite ways to use vinegar is with cleaning. I can honestly say it cleans better than any commercial cleaner on the shelf.

What’s so money saving about vinegar use? For one, it’s very low cost and a little goes a long way. Also, it can be used for a variety of cleaning jobs, so it replaces many of the cleaners you buy.

One way I use it is for cleaning hard, stuck on foods like off the stove top and counters. I either spray it on directly, or I mix it with a little bit of dish soap in a spray bottle and use that. I am not kidding when I say it does better than any cleaner I have ever used. I have tried using those wipes that come in the container, bleach, stovetop spray and so on. With my vinegar/dish soap mix, I can spray ot on, come back in a minute and it wipes off with no elbow grease involved. The same concoction also cleans soap scum off showers.

I can buy a big gallon bottle of vinegar for around $2-$3 here. That bottle will last me a couple months. Since vinegar can be used on just about any surface, that little amount of money I spend on it, really saves me from having to spend an addition $10 or so on other cleaners each month.

I use vinegar mixed with water in a spray bottle and clean my floors and windows. I also mix vinegar and water to soak my veggies and fruits to clean them.
