Fort Mackinac. Built back in 1870, Fort Mackinac protected the straits of Mackinac, while serving both the British and American Armies. Periodically throughout the day, you will hear the deafening boom of a cannon blast from Fort Mackinac, as well as several reenactments and theatre presentations that share its history.

Bike the Island. Mackinac has several bicycle rentals, allowing you to bike the entire perimeter of the 8.2-mile coastline. Reaching the far side of the island feels like you’re on the other side of the moon, with no one around, except the sound of the crashing waves on the shore.

Carriage Tours. If you’re not one to bike the island then a Mackinac Island carriage tour might be best for you. There are several stops and things to learn along the 45-minute scenic ride.
